The company

Box Telecom is a very small company which stands by Miami, Florida, United-States.
I worked there between September 2008 and February 2009.

I found that internship on a website and despite my small qualification I have been accepted.

BoxTelecom works in the field of telecommunication with cell-phone, SMS, VoIP and IVR (Interactive Voice Response ) application. They make some advertising phone call and SMS. They have a bunch of servers to do that and some web applications to control them. Call are made with the soft PBX open source Asterisk.

My work

When I arrived, I had to learn very fast how Asterisk works and how their “system” works. I build some IVR applications like an astrology number or a meeting application. I also have to administrate Debian server  and install new one.

Then I take on my own to build a new administration tools to get statistics (for administrator and customer), control all the parameters of Asterisk server, manage database of phone number,  pilot SMS Gateway and synchronise data of all servers.

I build it in XHTML, PHP, JavaScript. The data are store in MySQL database.

Charts are made with the flash API : SWF Charts.

To Resume

During this I had to work in full autonomy : I have to solve alone my problems, choose the right technical solution, the best architecture. I learnt quickly a lots of things, I worked on a lots of different stuff and I always try to optimize the database and the PHP code in order to have the quickest response. I also face some hacker attacks and hardware failure (crash of hard-drives).
